Despite having sold over a billion units worldwide (according to EMI
Records) – The Beatles’ musical journey nearly ended before it began,
when the Fab Four were turned down by no less than five record companies.
Columbia, Pye, Philips, Oriole and Decca all declined to sign the
group, with Decca’s Dick Rowe reportedly declaring “guitar groups are on
the way out”. How wrong he was.
